Breast Cancer Immunotherapy Symposium (BRECIS)
A partner program of Sidra Medical and Research Center and the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.
Part of the Sidra Symposia Series.
April 13-14, 2015
Al Mirqab Ballroom
Four Seasons Hotel

Program Purpose
Breast Cancer is the most common type of tumor in women in the MENA region and Western Countries. Although development of novel anti-neoplastic drugs has allowed significant prolonged patient survival, metastatic breast cancer remains an incurable disease. Next generation immunotherapy (eg, engineered T cells and immune-checkpoint blockades) is emerging as powerful tool able to cure -in some cases- established metastatic tumors such as melanoma and lymphocytic leukemia. There is a growing interest in exploring this fascinating approach in breast cancer. But little is known about the immune-responsiveness of this aggressive disease.
This two-day symposium was designed to provide state-of-the-art information on immunobiology and immunotherapeutic development in breast cancer. World-wide and local experts in the field of immunotherapy and breast cancer shared their knowledge through highly interactive presentations and discussions. The symposium aimed at covering the spectrum of scientific research: basic (in vitro and in vivo experimental models), translational (cancer biomarkers) and clinical (trials development) research. Molecular and clinical differences between breast-cancer patterns in Western Countries vs MENA regions was also discussed in detail.
Topics
The symposium included detailed presentations breaking down three key content areas:
- Epidemiology/Biology
- Biomarkers
- Preclinical and Clinical Trial Development
Intended Audience
This symposium was directed towards academic physicians and scientists (at any level of their career) involved in cancer research and treatment.
