Workshop on Cancer and Inflammation: Promise for Biological Therapy

This small group, interactive workshop assembled thought-leaders in the field to discuss inflammation and its role in cancer with an expected results publication following the program.
Intended Audience
The target audience for this program incorporates basic and clinical investigators from academic, regulatory, and biopharmaceutical venues. The audience includes clinicians, researchers, students, post-doctoral fellows, and allied health professionals.
Program Goals
- Clarify the relationship between chronic inflammation and cancer, promoting possible biologic therapies in combination with other agents toward the treatment of cancer.
- Facilitate communication and collaborations between laboratory and clinical investigators.
- Provide a forum for enhanced interactions between the pharmaceutical industry, government, and academia in order to facilitate cancer research in inflammation that may lead to better patient outcomes.
- Discuss regulatory issues surrounding cancer clinical trials involving pro and anti-inflammatory agents.
- Educate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty in the area of biological therapy and offer the opportunities to interact with senior investigators and leaders in the field.
Expected Learner Outcomes
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the most recent updates on advances involving pro and anti-inflammatory agents.
- Establish productive collaborations between clinical and laboratory investigators.
- Discuss and formulate novel clinical trials, including collaborations between the pharmaceutical industry and academia, which may lead to better outcomes in cancer patients.
- Evaluate the regulatory and legal aspects of developing clinical trials using anti-inflammatory agents.
