A Message from the President

Dear Colleagues,

For 30 years, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) has been at the forefront of tumor immunology and immunotherapy. Thus, it is gratifying to see the success of so many immunotherapy approaches today across a wide variety of cancers bringing new and effective treatment options to patients with cancer. The expanding role of immunotherapy has also generated great interest in the field, as well as a greater need for education of practicing physicians, nurses and pharmacists, than ever before.

SITC is addressing this need through various CME- and CNE-certified regional education programs. The next program of this kind, Tumor Immunology 101: A Navigation Guide for the Growing Field of Cancer Immunotherapy, will be held in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, May 29, from 8 a.m. to noon. Held just prior to the ASCO Annual Meeting, this program will give participants the baseline knowledge needed to understand higher-level immunotherapy content.

To celebrate the advancements in the field—and to gain support for the next generation of cancer immunotherapy experts—SITC is holding our third annual House of Blues fundraiser on Sunday, May 31 from 8 p.m. to midnight. A $30 donation at the door gets you in to the world famous House of Blues and live entertainment from SITC’s own house band, The CheckPoints! Your contribution helps support a worthy cause and entitles you to food and a beverage.

During the event, we will announce the SITC-Merck Cancer Immunotherapy Clinical Fellowship Award recipient. This one-year award, made possible by the Forward Fund and an independent grant from Merck & Co., Inc., will provide a young investigator with $100,000 of support for research furthering the development of cancer immunotherapies.

I look forward to seeing you in person over the conference weekend. If you’re not able to make it, be sure to follow SITC on Twitter for the latest news, updates and photos of these exciting events!

Best regards,

Howard L. Kaufman, MD, FACS
SITC President
