President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

As a leader in field for 30 years, SITC is beyond excited by the tremendous growth of interest in the field of cancer immunology and immunotherapy. Today, education that supplies a basic understanding of how the immune system relates to cancer is invaluable. SITC is addressing this need through various educational programs including Tumor Immunology 101: A Navigation Guide for the New Field of Immuno-Oncology.

Held prior to the 2014 ASCO Annual Meeting on Friday, May 30, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, Tumor Immunology 101 will give participants the knowledge needed prior to attending other cancer immunotherapy sessions at ASCO.

In addition, SITC is hosting our 2nd annual House of Blues Fundraiser from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am on Sunday, June 1. SITC invites everyone to attend this event and celebrate the advances in cancer immunotherapy at the world famous Chicago House of Blues with live music from The CheckPoints, SITC’s official house band.

The most exciting part of the night will come with the announcement of the first ever SITC-EMD Serono Cancer Immunotherapy Clinical Fellowship Award recipient. This one-year award will provide the winner with $100,000 of support for research furthering the development of cancer immunotherapies.

After the winner is announced, you won’t want to miss another special announcement from SITC regarding future funding opportunities. Can’t make it to ASCO or the House of Blues Fundraiser? Make sure to follow SITC on Twitter @sitcancer for the latest news and updates!

Sincerely,

Francesco M. Marincola, MD

Visit SITC in the Exhibit Hall at Booth #2047

SITC will make a splash at ASCO through our events and by featuring some of our latest projects that are influencing the field of cancer immunotherapy. Beginning Saturday, May 31, stop by the SITC exhibit booth to get a first-hand look at the following groundbreaking projects:

SITC recently released NSCLC Immunotherapy: A New HopeTM, an 11-minute video that follows a patient's journey from NSCLC diagnosis through her decision to seek cancer immunotherapy treatment via a clinical trial.

It can help medical professionals educate patients on how cancer immunotherapy works, how immunotherapy is used today in clinical trials around the United States, and how this type of treatment can offer a new level of hope to patients with NSCLC.

SITC and Medscape Oncology are proud to present Clinical Advances in Immuno-Oncology, a new, robust online learning center designed to provide oncologists with FREE, CME-certified education on the topic of immunotherapy.

This online learning center was developed through a strategic partnership between SITC and Medscape, and it includes a variety of CME-certified educational activities. Stop by the booth to navigate through all three recently released activities.
