In recognition of his pioneering research in the immunologic treatment of cancer, the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) will honor Carl June, MD, the Richard W. Vague Professor of Immunotherapy in the Perelman School of Medicine and the Director of translational research at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, with the 2013 Richard V. SITC's most distinguished award will be presented to Dr. June at the Society’s Annual Meeting awards ceremony on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. “SITC is proud to present Dr. Carl June with our most prestigious award, the Richard V. Smalley, MD Memorial Award,” said Society President Francesco M. His research using genetically engineered versions of patients’ own T cells to attack tumors in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, has opened up new horizons for the immunologic treatment of cancer.”

Established in 2005, this award is presented in memory of former Society President, Richard V. Smalley, MD, to honor a luminary in the field that has significantly contributed to the advancement of cancer immunotherapy research.
