President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

The Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer recognizes that accessibility is an essential component to driving the field of cancer immunotherapy forward and, therefore, seeks to expand its impact by working with like-minded organizations to expand educational efforts. Through these opportunities, scientists from around the globe are collaborating, communicating and ultimately spearheading key advances in the field of cancer immunotherapy.

This type of global activity is essential, as it is through these partnerships that SITC members provide cancer immunotherapy education to broad audiences around the world and increase excitement and advocacy within the field.

This past month, SITC was one of the cosponsors of ITOC-1 Immunotherapy of Cancer Conference in Munich, Germany. Next month SITC will host Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy: From Basic Science to Clinical Application as guest society symposium at the 2014 AAI Annual Meeting. Then on May 30, SITC heads to the ASCO Annual Meeting for a program on Tumor Immunology 101: A Navigation Guide for the New Field of Immuno-Oncology.

I invite you to join SITC at these upcoming conferences and through our educational opportunities, research and live meetings.

Sincerely,

Francesco M. Marincola, MD
SITC President

SITC in Action

ITOC-1 Abstracts Available on JITC

In Munich, Germany, the ITOC-1 Immunotherapy of Cancer Conference, in which SITC was one of the co-sponsors, saw drug developers, clinicians, immunologists and scientists from around the world participate in the immunotherapy discussion.

Dr. Thomas Gajewski, SITC Past President and current SITC member, attended the meeting and said, "The inaugural ITOC conference was a huge success. The meeting was truly international, with a spectrum of countries represented in terms of speakers and attendees. The quality of the discussion was very high, and I was impressed by the number of European biotech companies participating. All of this came together to foster new interactions and the potential for important new collaborations."

The Journal for Immunotherapy of Cancer (JITC) has published a collection of selected abstracts from the ITOC-1 conference. To access these articles, please click here.
